A family home with its gate open to the world.

Home & Garden did not begin as a hotel or a guesthouse built for tourists. First and foremost, it is our family home in Călărași, Dolj, in southern Oltenia.

This is where Lumi and Flori live, and where they welcome you.

Lumi looks after the house, the rooms and, above all, the kitchen. She does not cook from a restaurant menu. She cooks as she always has for the family: with what is good that day, vegetables from the garden, local produce and simple recipes passed down at home.

Flori looks after the household and keeps everything working. If you arrive by bicycle and need a spanner, a pump or a small repair, there is a good chance you will spend some time in his workshop too.

Over time, more and more travellers began passing our gate. Some came by bicycle, following EuroVelo 6 and the Danube. Others were discovering Via Danubiana or simply looking for somewhere quiet to spend the night.

They came from Romania and many other corners of the world. They stayed in our rooms or pitched their tents in the garden. We shared meals and stories, and often people who arrived as guests left feeling a little like family.

That is how Home & Garden grew.

We are not trying to be a resort or turn country life into a stage set. We want to keep this place as it is: a living Oltenian home, with a garden, homemade food, quiet moments and people who have time to talk.

For us, hospitality is about simple things: a clean room after a long day on the road, a safe place for your bicycle, something good to eat, a morning coffee and the feeling that you are welcome.

If your journey takes you through southern Oltenia, near the Danube, our gate is open.
